5 Tips to Take Care of Your Yard & Avoid Pests

The flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, and the bugs are definitely buzzing! Keeping the bugs at bay around your home starts with keeping up your yard. Check out these 5 tips from our Bug Guys to take care of your yard and avoid pests.

1. Keep the Foliage Trimmed

Excess shrubbery, leaves, and branches are the perfect places for pests to dwell. Make sure to do a little spring cleaning this May to keep the bugs away!

2. Mow Often 

This goes along with our first tip – the healthier your yard is, the less pests you’ll have to deal with! The longer your grass is, the more places there are for critters to camp out.

3. Maintain Water Treatment 

Make sure you have a proper watering system intact. To maintain a healthy lawn, you need to make sure it’s regularly watered. You also need to be mindful about standing water; bugs love it, especially mosquitoes! Do you have areas of your lawn where water collects easily? Consider adding draining or aerating systems to eliminate standing water and thus mosquitoes. 

4. Decide What Type of Lawn Killer You Need 

There are many different options to choose from when it comes to lawn killers. From fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides, DIY mixtures, etc., it can be overwhelming to select the right thing for your lawn. Some may kill off bugs that are beneficial for your lawn, while others may kill off the lawn you’ve been trying to keep healthy. With all of that being said, it is important to be well informed and research before choosing a lawn killer.
