Simple Tips for Better Wildlife Control Around Your Home

Simple Tips for Better Wildlife Control Around Your Home

While we love the wilderness just as much as the next person, we’re not big fans of having to deal with annoying squirrels, stealing raccoons, and stinky skunks wreaking havoc in our yard. Not to mention, wildlife can often carry disease or disease-carrying fleas and ticks. To help you keep both your yard and your family safe, we’re sharing some simple tips for better wildlife control around your home.

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA), as well as all of us here at Bug House Pest Control, want to remind all homeowners who may encounter wildlife on their property to contact a pest professional instead of trying to remove it on their own.

While you should always leverage the expertise of a certified professional when it comes to wildlife, you can do these simple things to ensure that wildlife stays, well, in the wild.

  • Repair damaged door and window screens
  • Install chimney caps and door sweeps
  • Inspect your roof annually for any water damage.
  • Cover any openings in your home (soffit, attic, exhaust fans, etc.)
  • Keep your tree limbs and shrubs trimmed and well maintained.
  • Make sure all outdoor garbage is locked and secured in a can that cannot be opened by animals.
  • Keep pet food and water bowls inside your home.
  • Make sure you remove brush, leaves, and debris regularly.
  • Keep your basement and crawl spaces well ventilated.
